Honestly, these portrait competitions, whilst taking up a bit of time for me here and there, are so rewarding that I often think I am on the cusp of something great.
You know when you first embark on something you see it going in a certain direction - well in my egomania I believed that one day our little portrait competition would lead to an annual limited edition box that would feature the portrait for all limited edition boxes and over the years it would become as famous as the Mouton Rothschild label which, when I first drunk a bottle of it at a fancy restaurant in Sydney, I was immediately enamoured with the story behind it. Dali, Kapoor, Haring, Chagall ... And one day Le Noeud Papillon would have the same equivalent cache of art submitted by those that entered the portrait competition...
Sadly I am not a Rothschild, my craft is also far more esoteric than a French bottle of wine. Needless to say, I keep the dream alive and I pray that if I don't achieve it in this life time, maybe my daughter can after I am gone.
Speaking of which, I did my last will and testament today. I must admit, I got watery eyes considering my extinction. That I might become an urn of ash, or as recently I was told by a friend, a couple of zip lock bags remaining after a half of the ashes were scattered in the waters around Sydney harbour.
Sometimes when I think about ashes being spread I recall two of my favourite scenes, The White Lotus, and of course towards the final scenes of The Big Lebowski when Donnie is blown back into their faces...
Above is Oliver Watts, a highly talented Sydney artist. We've had a number of great submissions, some from the arts world, some who are just plain talented, like Jonathan that submitted last year. A very good one that remains one of my favourites.
Today we released a few more bow ties onto the website. Concurrently I have been dealing with a number of customers both in Australia and the USA. One of those customers, in the USA, ordered two dog bow ties along with bow ties for himself and his son. These orders give me great pleasure - you can always ask the question on +61413140994.
