I used to buy Lululemon t shirts like it was nobody’s business. Prior to that I used to buy AS Colour in bulk wholesale and I would do all sorts of things to them from embroidery to prints. I love t shirts and for many years I considered them disposable - the Lululemon ones would fade and you can’t wear them with suits once they did. The shape would go too. Good news, they could last a few wears before you felt them getting a little on the nose. The AS Colour ones, fun for the first few wears, great when they were properly dusted up and about to fall apart, it’s own look.
Then I met with Marco and I got my first sample of his pure merino wool t shirts. They are dyed so that the colour never runs or fades, they are pre shrunk so you can put them pretty much on any cycle and they come out the same way you put them in.
But here’s what’s totally different. The merino breathes so well in summer and in winter. They never smell but for what cologne or perfume you spray them with, it’s the lightest weight jersey so it never feels like you are wearing something from Australian merino wool, and more over, it holds its shape and never crinkles or creases. I just dont know any other t shirt like the Albeni x Le Noeud Papillon ones we worked with him to perfect. And where they really really really shine, is with suits. Of course I wear them as my undergarment when skiing, but they just seem to come to life when I am donning a suit and for so many months in Sydney you can find a shirt and collar just too much. So a t shirt and a pocket square, perfect. In the winter with a scarf, perfect.
Now I am well aware they are not cheap and you could buy 3 other t shirts for the price of one. You really could. I get it. But then I go by what my customers say and not one has come back and said they are expensive, not when they consider the longevity of merino wool so long as you dont jag it on something, so long as that t shirt is looked after and preferably hung out to dry, you are good to go for many years.
Look, I do not expect you all to believe me. I don’t need you to either, we have enough of a core fan base now that I am very content with where things are heading, just give it some thought. It will change your life, or at the very least, how you look at what cloth you choose for t shirts.
