For Phillip, it works. But it doesn't work for everyone. Generally the rule is to make sure your bow tie matches the facing (lapel) of your jacket. But that's the rule, and rules were made to be broken. In this particular instance I think Phillip has made the right choice, my reason also being that his facing is a matching velvet. However, there are times when I feel that too much velvet can over 'plush' the ensemble and it is, as always, about finding balance.
