Why a certain bow tie shape came to be known as the ‘Mayfair’ I do not know but I assume it has something to do with Mayfair, London. When I first began making ties there was a company called Lido which was still making ties in Sydney, Australia and in those early days I made bow ties through Lido before taking control over our production entirely. In those days the company was based in Marrickville, now one of the trendier suburbs often listed on hip places to live in the world right now. Back then it was mostly the remnants of industry left in the city in terms of apparel production. The designer Akira Isogawa, for example, was no more than two streets away. The best embroiderer in Sydney, Zois, was in the same building as Lido.  

Over the course of this week I was disappointed with the other bow tie we made with Pepper. It was a batwing, it just didn't come out so well when its in a pre-tied construction. I went back to the drawing board and we came out with this one. It's a hand tied bow tie with a collar thats 11 inches. Now your dog can be as sophisticated as you. The first one is up for grabs, the entire sale will go to Wayside Chapel. Check your dog's neck size first.

Honestly, these portrait competitions, whilst taking up a bit of time for me here and there, are so rewarding that I often think I am on the cusp of something great.

It takes a lot to get me excited these days, I have seen almost a variation on everything from cut to cloth to colour.

Admittedly I wasn't that comfortable going commando but I had a desire to wear one of my favourite suits which was a super 170's wool in cashmere and merino which I had sourced out of London. The part theme was Babylon, so it called for decadence. I unashamedly squeezed my tummy into that waistcoat which admittedly looks like it's going to pop its buttons any minute and I decided, after I had seen Marty Thomas on his Instagram go first, to try commando.

I was roped into taking my daughter and her friends to a cosmetics shop. I am amazed at how the cosmetics chains have roped younger girls into the make up world. They do these ASMR videos with each other on iPads and the like, showcasing whatever new product they have managed to squeeze out of their parents and tapping their finger nails and rubbing surfaces to give you all these neat little presentations. It is a bit much. It alarms me. But then I am starting to feel like I am getting to an age where I should just assume I am out of touch with how it is for the next generation these days.
