A Very Handsome Proposition - A Hand-Tied Velvet Bow Tie

A Very Handsome Proposition - A Hand-Tied Velvet Bow Tie

A hand-tied velvet bow tie. It's not easy to make, you need to baste the fabric, you need to carefully guide the sewing machine, and then, once you are happy you managed to get the lines right, you need to carefully invert the bow tie without damaging the velvet. If you think that's easy, try to have a go yourself. In the end, creating a hand-tied bow tie is a work of love, but it's a very handsome proposition for evening wear, and we want you to have the best of what's available.

If You Don't Know Who We Are

If You Don't Know Who We Are

Hello, my name is Nicholas Atgemis. Each week we make products from our Sydney work room. We design silk, we procure silk, we cut silk, we sew silk, we tie silk and we write about silk. And when it is all said and done we pack it off to you beautifully and send it around the world.

This week we have been cutting silks that were procured from a recent trip to Japan. It was very fruitful. As our customers know, we take pride not only weaving silk with Italy and England's finest weavers, but we also spend a great deal of time procuring the beautiful, the obscure and the rare from all four corners of the globe.

If you would like to know more about what we are cutting right now, take a look on our Instagram at @lenoeudpapillon where you can see what we have been up to of recent. Otherwise you can text us day or night on Whatsapp on +61413140994 .

Wedding Bow Ties In Sydney Australia

Wedding Bow Ties In Sydney Australia

I love custom work because it is a challenge. You usually get someone relatively finicky and often a perfectionist of sorts. I am not a perfectionist, I subscribe to a different model - which is repetition brings in itself perfection. It comes from something I once heard about a ceramics class in which a teacher separated the class into two groups. She halved the clay and said to one group "make a perfect pot from this clay. Just one." She said to the other group "make as many pots as you can from this clay". The group that made the most number came out with the best result. The point being, repetition helps you get things right.

It's About The Birth Of Christ - Not The Fat Man In The Sky

It's About The Birth Of Christ - Not The Fat Man In The Sky

It's that time of year and it's not always nice for everyone. Families have old trauma, people are doing it hard. If there is one thing I want suggest to my customers it is this, Christmas is about the birth of Christ and the celebration of his life, and if we break all of it down and we remove all the miracles and focus on what he tried to teach us, it is basically the principles of love, humility, forgiveness, and righteousness as per his sermon on the mount. And to be true to myself, to be honest about where I stand on that, I know that I am a flawed character and that when in doubt, it is fantastic to fall back on these principles even if I don't believe he walked on water or fed 5000. And so I wish these things for my customers and friends, just as I wish it for myself.

I Like It When You Trust Me - Parachute Silk Bandanas Are Cool

I Like It When You Trust Me - Parachute Silk Bandanas Are Cool

This is Nicholas. An old friend. I did his wedding bow ties, I was in fact part of the wedding party. Great night but I screwed my speech I thought I was being funny but it went down not so well. Still a sore point I imagine but we don't talk about it anymore.

Nicholas came past for his wife's birthday party and I sold him a parachute silk bandana, he trusted me, and it paid off. Coupled with his new pochette from us, he got loads of compliments and the following day announced that he was now a bandana man. Maybe. Sometimes when men tell you they are a convert its a little like when as a tourist you visit a great city or village, make promises to the locals you will be back soon but you never do.

Anyway, time will tell whether he is a true convert but for the moment anyway I have a new muse for them.

Our Bow Ties Last For Decades - The Mayfair Velvet Bow Tie

Our Bow Ties Last For Decades - The Mayfair Velvet Bow Tie

Jeremy here, he has owned our bow ties for over a decade now and the same bow ties will be worn by him for decades to come. If you look after our products you will hand them onto your kids and in fact many of the children of our first customers are now wearing their parents bow ties to events from here to the USA. So, consider this when you are buying your next item of clothing, will it stand the test of time? Will I be able to have my children wear it in the future, if the answer is yes, don't hesitate in buying it.

Alexis Zambrano Submission For 2024 Portrait Competition

Today on our Instagram I took a small excerpt from a film I love, directed by Martin Scorsese, as the character Lionel Dobie, played by Nicholas Nolte, turns his art manager away saying he has nothing to show him.

Well Finally Some Women ...

Well Finally Some Women ...

It started with Cornelia Selover's art work which was our very first submission this year for the portrait competition. And since then the most interest we've had this year is from women. Which is interesting because I have tried to engage so many women about silks but we were somewhat type casted by the fact that we specialise in bow ties.
