Like Watching A Fire

I spent yesterday in the countryside and it is so infrequent now that I get to watch a timber fire burn. It's one of those last things I love about the country that reminds me of my childhood. These days you barely if ever see fires burning in the city. So that's part of the allure of spending time in the country, a real fire. Anyway, I took a great photo of it, we built one outside towards dusk. It was burning quite well and I do consider myself as "pretty good" with getting a fire started. But there are few things as mesmerizing as watching the red centre burn and the flames lick and there is no plot line, no narrative, no real outcome other than watching it turn to ash, and yet, to my mind, as interesting as any Netflix series.

There is a wonderful privilege in going to a zoo. It's a day out and there is something about having such a wide and varied range of animals to have time with. Of course, it's sad to see them caged. I can't deny that. But the flip side is that if everyone was to try and fly to Africa to see gorillas in the jungle, there would be an even greater cost on our environment.

As this global malaise continues to wreak havoc on people's travel plans and lifestyle, we still have a choice, well most of us do anyway, as to how we present ourselves to the world. As one of my regular customers wrote to me on the weekend, he found our Instagram enjoyable because it gave him inspiration to put on his nice clothes again. It was a privilege to see men like Dandy Wellington who wagered war on the virus by not giving up on how he presented himself to the world. That same customer said that over the weekend he has posed his wife a question: "Do you think I will ever wear my bow ties again?"

Nathan Colkitt And The Pin Striped Suit And Polka Dot Bow Tie That Worked

This is Nathan Colkitt. He has become on our customers over the past twelve months having heard about us through Steven Knorsch, aka The Snob Report. I received recently a wonderful photo taken of Nathan by his wife and he was just showing me how he was wearing our bow ties right now. It has always been a privilege to see what our customers come up with because I have my own aesthetic but it is often limited by my weight, the colour of my skin and what I am willing to give a go and what I set aside. I have not worn a pin stripe since the mid 1990's so I was so happy to see Nathan pull this ensemble off. It strikes me as odd from the outset. If someone said to me "what about a pin striped suit with a bengal striped shirt with a white collar and cuffs and a polka dot bow tie" I would probably reply - NO.

So, I take my hat off to you Mr. Colkitt. Because this is an exceptionally refined look and I am going to give it a go myself in the near future. Well, I will investigate it. I am not entirely sure pin stripes will work for, but nothing ventured nothing gained.

I have been spruiking my little morning swim club for some time now and as it has grown so has the number of products we have developed around it. Over time we have had people turning up asking for product, especially our caps and sweaters with the gold foil.
