I had an aggressive email from a customer last night, some of his concerns are valid, some are vitriolic and personal. I just wanted to say today that we don't make up our prices out of thin air and we always welcome you to look at the collections and quality of our competitors before making your own informed opinions. Our sales are available to all, a chance to collect your products, add to your wardrobe to make sure you always look fresh and can pair our accessories with more of your ensembles. I don't wish to shame our customers, but below is worth posting in the sense that if you feel that way, you ought to unsubscribe from our database, no hard feelings. I post below without naming the customer. But, he is so welcome to unsubscribe, mostly since he does not enjoy our stories.

I didn’t mention it till Wednesday but the headmistress of my old school, Cranbrook, asked me if I would like to make them a silk scarf. It was such a privilege, and the headmistress, Dr Anne Johnstone, was very pleased with the result, we took the Cranbrook rugby logo of C and S and placed it in a diamond pattern. The result was slightly Gucci-esque but really it had it’s own personality and with the deep rich navy and red finished with a heming line border in red, it became its own. Took a while for us to get it right, the motto of the school, ESSE QUAM VIDERI, to be rather than to seem to be, it was problematic getting resolution, we had to find the Goldilocks size. The end result and the samples, all of it I gave to Cranbrook as a gift as I really had done nothing at all for my old school over the years, and I was just pleased that my skill set could be useful to them. In the end they placed an order with us but the magic was in the process of going through their design files criteria and working to something that would result in a scarf I am happy to wear as a four in hand myself, the red isn’t overpowering and the navy fits in with so much navy that I wear these days.

This is Steve "Ajax" "Mothy" Jarvin. He is one of those people that stays active 365 days a year, sailing, skiing or cycling. In the winter months he is an instructor in Thredbo ski resort, then he sails, then when winter falls on the USA he is in Aspen. He is a real energizer battery. I know because occasionally I ski with him and he's 20 years older than me with double the output. Bell to bell, as many days as you can ski, he will be there.

You know, if I don't survive the next economic downturn, if I never managed to succeed in becoming one of those businesses that survives for a couple of hundred years, no matter, I have had a wonderful time in the process. 

I don’t go out very much, I am not anti social by any stretch, but I tend to prefer to duck off to the mountains if I can, and, lately, the cost of living pressures here and there have made me pull back on a lot of frivolous spending.

When I do head out I have to admit I have become a little boring over these past few years. Actually, almost a decade now. I prefer to go to one cocktail lounge. I have mentioned it many times now, it is called Charlie Parker’s. The bar manager, Giacomo, he is a friend. I am very well looked after when I go. It is my “Cheers” if you will.

Super happy with her scarf. I adore making new designs and playing with ideas, referencing art I love, merging things that have had an impact on me. And the reward comes in the form of cloth in your hand. This week we have taken delivery of new designs and more are coming over the course of September. We have also gone where we haven’t gone before, 140cm silk and cashmere blend squares. I am not sure I would ever use one myself, perhaps on my bed, maybe, but I just wanted to see our artworks coming to life in a different product. You may love them, maybe there are too much for you, maybe you find it a little too cheeky, no matter, eventually we will out something in front of you that will resonate, and we are open to hearing from you and your thoughts. But one thing will remain a thread, we will probably refrain from doing motifs and traditional designs and patterns, it’s not our bag, and we would prefer if you want that, to find those traditional houses still offering the same same. There’s nothing wrong with it, it works, sometimes a simple motif works beautifully for an ensemble, but our competitors do it well enough and I am not sure we could contribute in that realm with great significance. 

 

As I said on my Instagram handle, we do like to deliver. The competition is real, the results are real. Kieran and his winning design are now together at last. I was so happy to get this photo from him, he won it with his design Australia, Where Everything Wants To Kill You - a magnificent result from a talented man. And, he got his 1000 AUD wired to his account. Kieran makes art anyway, you can see it on his Instagram handle, so what's to lose with a submission? And now he can wear his art and tell the story over dinner, well, you see, I entered this competition from a guy I get my bow ties from and ....

This competition is starting to become bigger than I expected and I am extremely amazed by all that talent that is out there. Annie showed me her sketch which is on our Instagram handle @lenoeudpapillon and you can then see how it evolved.
